How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Heavy Stubble Beard
Achieving the heavy stubble beard look is probably the easiest beard style to achieve and maintain. Follow these simple steps to get healthy stubble.
1. If you are starting from a clean-shaven face, let your beard hair grow for about a week.
Heavy stubble is somewhere in the 0.25-0.5 inch range, which should take about a week to achieve for most men. If you already have a beard, simply use your trimmer with a #2 or #3 guard to trim it up.
2. Maintain your stubble by keeping it trimmed up.
There’s a fine line between an intentional 5 o’clock shadow and looking like you just forgot to shave for a while. Keep your stubble in check by using your trimmer with one of the lowest guards (usually a 0 or 1) every 2-3 days.
3. Keep your hair and skin healthy with a good skincare routine.
Make sure to cleanse your face daily with a facial cleanser and use a moisturizer to prevent itchy, dry skin. Follow up with this beard scruff tamer to keep your stubble feeling soft.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect [TYPE]:

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Sparrow Beard
Going as Jack Sparrow for Halloween? Or maybe you just really love pirates? Follow these steps and you, too, can look as cool as Johnny Depp!
1. Start growing out your beard hair.
You’ll need at least 5-6 inches of hair before you can start braiding the ends, so this look will take a while to fully achieve. To speed up the growth process and ensure healthy facial hair, add some growth supplements to your daily vitamin routine.
2. Shape your beard.
Once you have a few inches of growth, you can begin to shape your beard. Use your trimmer or a razor to shave your cheeks and sideburns down to your jawline. You should also remove most of the hair on your neck. Leave the mustache, allowing the ends to point downward on either side of your mouth. If you’re using a safety razor, be sure to use a shave lube to get a close shave that is free from cuts.
3. Trim out the soul patch.
Use a thin attachment on your trimmer to create the soul patch. To do this, remove the hair just below your lip, but only on the sides, leaving about an inch in the middle.
4. Braid your chin hair.
Once you have enough length on your chin, split the hair into two sections and braid each section. Run some beard butter through your facial hair first, and then split the first section into three smaller sections, wrapping one section over the other all the way down. Finish off with a decorative bead if you’d like. Then do the same thing with the second section.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Cool Beard Fade Shape
Growing a faded beard takes practice, but it will be worth it. Here are the steps we recommend to grow your cool beard fade.
1. Grow Out A Full Beard
Before you begin, you want to grow a nice full beard. Taking daily supplements will help in growing your beard quickly. The length of your beard is up to you, but for a proper fade, you will want your beard to be at least an inch or more to get the desired look.
2. Fade The Sideburns Into The Beard
The next step is the most important; it will take practice to get it right. You will need to fade your sideburns down into your beard. Some people like to start with a low cut at the top of the ears and work down. Others like to start at the bottom with the beard and work up. Either way, combining a comb and trimmer or comb and scissors is best. We recommend using a professional grooming kit for this. Use the comb to let just enough hair in, and then cut it away with the trimmer or scissors. Cut little pieces of hair away until you have achieved the faded look.
3. Clean Up The Beard Lines
After you have the right fade happening, you should clean up your lines. These faded looks are best when there is a clean edge to your beard, cheeks, and neck. Apply a good amount of shaving lube to your face. Then hold up a beard-shaping tool to your cheeks and neckline. Shave around the tool and use the edges to get straight or perfectly curved lines.
4. Maintain A Healthy Beard
Finally, you will want to ensure that your beard stays soft and hydrated. We recommend a beard softener to soften your beard without stripping away the essential oils it needs. You can also rub in beard butter or beard oil to keep it moisturized. This will help the beard from becoming too hard, brittle, or flaky.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect cool beard fade:
- Beard Growth Supplements: Helps to stimulate natural beard growth with essential vitamins and minerals your facial hair needs to thrive.
- The Edge Beard Shaping Tool: Perfect for getting razor-sharp lines for your sideburns, beard, or goatee.
- Beard Oil - Cool Mint: Keeps your beard hydrated and smelling fresh while defending it from brittle ends and flaky dandruff.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Pencil Mustache
The pencil mustache makes a statement on it’s own, and usually does not include a beard. Follow these steps to get a great pencil mustache that will make you want to light a cigar and drink some whiskey with the boys.
1. Shave all of your facial hair except your mustache.
This look is best when it stands alone, so start by shaving off all of your facial hair except the mustache. To get a close shave and prevent razor burn, use a shave lube and a safety razor.
2. Trim your mustache.
A pencil mustache should be short. Use a 2mm or 4mm guard on your trimmer to even out the length of your ‘stache.
3. Define the shape.
The distinguishing feature of the pencil mustache is that it’s usually straight across. Take any attachments off your trimmer and use short, gentle strokes to achieve a straight line. Stop frequently to check for symmetry.
4. Take care of your skin.
Since most of your face will be sans hair, you’ll want to take extra care of your skin to prevent dryness, flakiness, or acne. Use a facial cleanser like Tough Scrub to eliminate dirt and oil and prevent clogged pores. Finish off with a moisturizer that contains SPF to keep your face hydrated and protected from the sun’s rays.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect pencil mustache:
- Wild Willies Shave Lube: to get a close shave and prevent razor burn.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Italian Mustache Shape
The Italian mustache is a great look that is pretty simple to achieve. Here are the steps it takes to grow one.
1. Grow Out The Mustache
First, you need to grow a nice mustache. You can opt to have a beard or not, but the main focus should be on the mustache itself. That means growing one at least an inch or more in length so that you have enough hair to work with when you curl the ends. You can use a quality beard serum daily to help promote mustache hair growth and to thicken it up.
2. Trim The Mustache
The Italian mustache is usually very well groomed, so keep it trimmed and tidy. Use a beard trimmer or get a comb and scissors to cut the hair back to an even length. As you cut back the hair, make sure you let the ends grow out a little longer. After trimming, you can apply a small amount of beard oil to the mustache, keeping it moisturized and soft.
3. Curl The Ends
Finally, you will need to slightly curl up the ends to have a true Italian mustache. Take some beard butter balm in between your fingers and thumb. Then gently rub the ends of your mustache hairs back and forth in a twisting motion. This will cause them to clump together and thin out. After that, slightly up or curl, the ends up towards your cheekbones. You don’t need to make a full circle here, just enough to give it a nice lift on the ends.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect Italian mustache:
- Beard Growth Serum: Contains all-natural ingredients to help boost facial hair growth and thicken your mustache.
- Beard Oil - Original: Keeps your mustache hydrated and moisturized, so it doesn’t become hard or brittle.
