Van Dyke Beard

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Van Dyke Beard Shape

The Van Dyke beard style isn’t too difficult to groom and style, but you will want to take some steps to ensure the best look possible.

1. Grow out a goatee.

The Van Dyke is a modified goatee that can or cannot be connected; the choice is yours. You will want to grow a nice thick mustache and then some arrangement of beard hairs on your chin. If your facial hairs don’t grow out rich and full, try some beard growth gummy supplements and beard boost serum to avoid any patchiness on your face.

2. As the goatee grows, shape it accordingly.

Once a solid goatee is formed, you will want to shape the Van Dyke style by shaving any unwanted hair from your jawline, cheeks, and sideburns. Typically the style isn’t connected from your lower facial hairs to your mustache, but you can keep those hairs if you desire. The main thing to remember here is to focus on growing a nice narrow beard from your chin and a full mustache that you can manipulate later.

3. Style your mustache and facial hairs.

Now comes the fun part. You can style the mustache and facial hair any way that you want. We recommend using beard balm and a brush to help shape the facial hairs the way you want them to. When it comes to the mustache, you can have it pointing downwards, flaring out to the sides, or curling around back towards your nose.

4. Maintain a clean, shaven look.

Finally, you just need to maintain the look of your new Van Dyke beard by styling and shaving back the areas that you don’t want the hair to grow. You can pick up a grooming kit with everything you need to cut, trim, style, and shape your new look daily.
