How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Salt And Pepper Beard Shape
To grow a salt and pepper beard, you must be old enough for white hair to come in. Here are some steps to make it look good and maintain it.
1. Grow Out Your Peppered Beard
To begin, you will need to get some facial hair going. Start by letting your wisdom whiskers grow to a point where you’d like. It can be short and stubbly or long and bushy. Either way, you will need to be ok with the white hairs changing up your beard color. Some people find this even more attractive than a solid-colored beard.
2. Style The Beard And Mustache
Once your beard has grown, you will need to trim and style it. We recommend grabbing The Expert Grooming Kit, which has everything you need to cut, style, and shave your beard. Use the included razor and beard-shaping tool, along with a nice shave lube, to get clean lines. Hold the tool up to your cheeks, jawline, or neckline, and use the tool's edges to cut around. This will ensure you have straight lines or perfectly curved lines for your face.
3. Nurture And Maintain Your Beard
Finally, make sure that you are taking good care of your beard. That means using healthy beard products like shampoos, beard washes, and beard oils to promote hair that is soft, clean, and marvelous. You will want to wash your beard daily, and you can use the oil once or twice a day, depending on how you like. Continue to trim, cut, shave, and style your new salt and peppered beard, and have a fun night out on the town.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect salt and peppered beard:

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Horseshoe Beard Shape
The following steps will show you what it takes to grow your own horseshoe beard.
1. Begin With A Goatee
You will first need a decent goatee to create a good horseshoe beard. Your facial hairs around the goatee should be at least half an inch or more in length. That goes for the mustache, around the mouth, and down to the chinline. You want nice, thick hair for this, so we suggest taking daily supplements to help speed up growth.
2. Shave Off The Chin Area
The next, and most iconic part of this style, is to shave off the chin area. You will want to create a straight line down the sides of your mouth with your facial hair. The hair can stop at your chin line or continue down into your neck if preferred. You can use a beard-shaping tool to help you get those cuts straight. Hold the tool to your horseshoe beard as you trim and shave away unnecessary areas.
3. Clean Up The Lines
Finally, you will want to finish shaving and cleaning up the rest of your horseshoe beard. The cheek lines and neck should be shaved. Generally, there are no sideburns either, so you can go ahead and shave those off. Make sure you are using quality shave lube, so you don’t get your skin irritated.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect horseshoe:
- Beard Growth Supplements: Promote fast and thick facial hair with all-natural vitamins and minerals.
- The Edge Beard Shaping Tool: Use this tool to get straight lines while trimming and shaving your horseshoe beard.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Two-Color Beard Shape
You can grow a two-color beard with just about any beard style. We’ll explain how to do it with hair dye.
1. Grow out your beard.
You’ll need to grow your beard long enough for the color to be obvious. Aim for at least 2-3 inches of growth. Beard growth supplements will help promote healthy facial hair while helping you grow a full beard at the same time.
2. Shape your beard.
A beard-shaping tool can help you style your beard with predefined curves around your cheeks. Hold the tool up to against the side of your face and shave or trim along the contours of the tool.
3. Prep your skin and apply the dye.
Use petroleum jelly and make a barrier around the parts of your face where you don’t want dye to show up. Then, apply the dye with a small brush, which is usually included in the dye kit. Follow the instructions on the package for how long to let it sit, then rinse thoroughly.
4. Keep your beard hair moisturized after dying it.
If you used a permanent dye, you can wash and condition your beard normally, using products specifically designed for beard hair, like a beard wash and beard conditioner. Follow up with beard butter to keep your hair moisturized. When you’re tired of the color, simply shave it off!
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect two-color beard:
- Beard Growth Supplements: Grow a nice, thick beard with natural ingredients.
- The Edge Beard Shaping Tool: Style the beard you want with a shaping tool that makes it easy to use.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Preppy Style Beard Shape
If you want to have that sharp preppy style beard look, then you need to follow these steps.
1. Grow A Low To Medium Size Beard
The first thing you need to do is start by growing a decent-sized beard. These beards are usually no more than a couple of inches in length because the short hairs give them that cleaner look. We recommend growing your beard hair a half inch to an inch more than the final length. This will ensure your facial hair can be trimmed uniformly.
2. Trim The Beard Hair
Next, use a decent beard trimmer or a comb and scissors to trim the hair. Growing it a half inch to an inch more means you have enough hair to work with when cutting it. Set the beard trimmer to the desired size and trim your entire beard. If you are using scissors, then comb your hair to the length you want it to be and use the scissors to cut off the excess hair that is sticking through. You can pick up a good grooming kit containing everything you need to do this.
3. Shave And Style The Lines
After trimming your beard hair to the length you want, you need to shave and clean up the lines. The preppy beard style is a very clean look, so it’s important to have nice even lines. You can use a beard-shaping tool by placing it against your cheeks or neckline and then shaving around the contours of the tool. Make sure you use a professional razor and shave lube to get a nice clean shave. Rinse your face off any leftover hair and pat it dry.
4. Keep Your Beard Moisturized
Finally, you will want to maintain that great-looking beard by brushing it and keeping it hydrated. A nice beard brush will go a long way in keeping those hairs in an even direction. We like to use beard oil by rubbing it into your beard. This will keep it from becoming hard and brittle. Then brush the hair. You can do this two to three times a day and will immediately begin to notice a difference in how soft and great your beard looks.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect preppy style beard:
- The Expert Grooming Kit: This kit has everything you need to trim, style, and nurture your beard, including a razor, scissors, brush, comb, and beard-shaping tool.
- Shave Lube: A quality shave lube with natural ingredients to help promote healthy skin and facial hair.
- Beard Oil - Cool Mint: Refreshing, cool mint beard oil applied daily into your hair means it’ll not become hard, flaky, or brittle.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Metal Beard Shape
Growing a metal beard will take time and dedication, but it’ll totally be worth it in the end. Here is how.
1. Grow A Long Beard
The typical look of a metal rocker is a long beard and generally long hair or a bald look to go with it. The defining characteristic is the length, so we aim for a beard at least three inches long or more (even up to eight inches for some performers!) Taking daily supplements will help you grow a rich, full beard from the start.
2. Brush The Beard Daily
As you are growing out your beard, it’s important that you take care of it. We want a wild, rockin’ look, but that doesn’t mean your beard should be hard and flaky. Use beard butter and a brush to keep your hair hydrated and smooth throughout the tour. We recommend lathering your beard with butter and then brushing it at least twice a day.
3. Style Or Wild? It’s Your Choice.
Whether you style your beard like Kerry King or let it run wild like Scott Ian is up to you. If you are going for an unruly look, you don’t have to do much other than just let it grow. However, if the style is more your thing, you should consider keeping it trimmed up and groomed. You can even consider adding braiding or hair ties for a unique effect.
4. Take Care Of That Hair
The final step you want to do is to ensure you are taking care of your facial hair. Shampoo your beard daily so that it gets the nutrients that it needs. Then use a beard softener formula to loosen up the facial hairs so that it remains soft to the touch, regardless of how unruly you let it go.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect metal beard:
- Beard Growth Supplements: Promotes a luscious beard with all-natural and healthy ingredients.
- Beard Brush: Professional brush is great for taming your facial hair.
- The Trendsetter Grooming Kit: Includes shampoo, beard softener, and beard serum to keep your beard looking it’s absolute best.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Handlebar Mustache
The handlebar mustache can be fun and looks great if pulled off correctly. Here are the steps to make one yourself.
1. Grow The Mustache
The first step in growing this style is having a long mustache. There are different lengths of handlebar mustaches, but generally speaking, it needs to be longer than you think. When you begin styling it, it will shorten in length, so make sure you have enough facial hair to work with. We recommend growing your hair at least one to two inches. Use beard serum to promote natural hair growth if you have trouble growing hair or it’s just not thick enough.
2. Style The Mustache
After you have gotten your mustache long enough to work with, it’s time to style it. Handlebar mustaches can be combed straight out, but typically they are curled upward towards the nose. This curved mustache look is the defining feature, so you want to take your time to get this right. Use a dime-sized beard balm and rub it between your index finger, middle finger, and thumb. Next, twist your mustache hairs on the ends by rolling them back and forth with your fingers. This will get them clumped together, and the balm will help solidify the shape. Finally, wrap your mustache around your index finger. This twirling around your finger will create a curved mustache. It takes practice, but you’ll get it if you work at it long enough.
3. Shave And Cleanup
Once you have gotten the mustache where you want it, it’s time to clean up. At this point, you can either keep your beard or shave it off. It doesn’t really matter either way, but if you want to accent the handlebar mustache, then it’s recommended you shave your beard. This will bring the focus only to the mustache. Use a good razor and quality shave lube to shave off the beard. You can leave the sideburns as long as you’d wish.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect handlebar mustache:
- Beard Boost Serum: All-natural ingredients help promote a healthy and thick set of facial hair.
- Beard Butter Balm & Brush Combo Set: Style your mustache while keeping it moisturized and soft. It also comes with a brush to brush out your hair.
- Shave Lube: Professional-grade shave lube that keeps your skin feeling fresh without all of the irritation.
