How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Power Beard Shape
A power beard is long, full, and well-groomed. Follow these steps to get a great power beard.
1. Focus on length and thickness.
The power beard is a commitment. It should be somewhere from 4-6 inches long, which for most men, takes about 6 months to grow out. Especially if you’re starting from a clean-shaven face, invest in some growth products like growth supplements, which will promote growth and increase thickness.
2. Keep it trimmed along the edges.
You don’t get to completely ignore your grooming for 6 months while your beard grows out. You’ll need to keep it trimmed up and uniform, which means shaving the hair along your neckline and directly below your cheekbones. A safety razor will give you clean edges and a close shave.
3. Keep your facial hair soft and smooth while it grows.
As your beard grows, you’ll want to keep your facial hair feeling soft and moisturized by washing your face daily with the right products. Use a beard wash that contains high-quality ingredients and essential oils to lock in moisture and hydrate your beard. Then, follow up with a beard butter that will tame wild hairs and reduce coarseness.
4. Style it daily.
Style your beard daily using a beard brush or a beard straightener, if you have extra curly or coarse hair. Using either product, run it along the length of your beard to brush it out and give it a uniform, intentional look.

Looking to grow a beardstache? Follow these steps and we’ll show you how!
Different Ways to Rock the Beardstache
A beardstache is simply a mustache that is longer than the beard hair surrounding it. Here’s a look at a few different styles.

The Subtle Beardstache

This is a more subtle approach to the beardstache, with the mustache hair only slightly longer than the rest of the stubble around his face.

The hipster beardstache adds a little bit of flair with a handlebar mustache.

The O.G. Beardstache
This is the original take on the beardstache, with a full, prominent mustache and a shorter beard.
How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Beardstache
There are a few variations on the beardstache, but they all follow pretty much the same steps.
1. Let all your facial hair grow out.
This may seem a bit counterintuitive, but you should let all of your facial hair grow out while you grow your mustache. Otherwise you’ll end up with…well, just a mustache. A full mustache can be anywhere between a half to a full inch long, but be sure to use trimming scissors to keep it just at the lip line.
2. Take care of your skin.
While you grow out your stubble, your skin can become prone to itchiness and dandruff if you aren’t using a proper skincare routine. Wash your face daily with a beard wash that will cleanse without stripping away natural oils. Follow up with a moisturizer like this beard scruff tamer that will hydrate your skin and prevent itchiness.
3. Trim up your beard.
Once your facial hair has grown out to a length that you’d like to keep your mustache at, now you can trim back your beard hair to a desired length. You might choose to go just slightly shorter than your mustache, like the original take on the beardstache, or you can go all the way down to stubble. Your desired length will determine the size of guard you should use on your trimmer.
4. Style your mustache how you like it.
If you want to add a little bit of flair to your beardstache, continue letting the ends of your mustache grow. Brush them down, or curl them up for a handlebar style. A grooming kit will have all the tools you need to style your mustache: trimming scissors, a comb, a shaping tool, and more.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect [TYPE]:
- Wild Willies Beard Wash: use daily to cleanse your beard.
- Wild Willies Scruff Tamer: use after cleansing your beard to lock in moisture and prevent beard dandruff.

Our Favorite Celebs With a Soul Patch Beard
What do Fred Durst, young Johnny Depp, Billy Bob Thornton, and Howie Mandel have in common? They all rock a badass soul patch beard. Take a look at how they each own this look.
How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Soul Patch Beard Shape
The soul patch might be the easiest type of facial hair to maintain. Follow these super easy steps to get the look.
1. If you have a beard, shave most of it off.
If you already have some facial hair, you’ll want to shave off everything except a small patch between your lower lip and your chin. We recommend starting with a clean-shaven look like Howie Mandel’s. Use a safety razor and shave lube to achieve a smooth, clean shave.
2. Leave the right amount of hair.
If you have dark, coarse hair, you can get away with leaving just a small amount of hair. If your hair is fine or lightly colored, you’ll need a larger or longer patch to make it more obvious. If you choose to jazz it up a bit, you can leave a chin strap like Fred Durst. Other options include leaving a little bit of stubble between shaves or leaving a small amount of hair right on your chin, too. If you need help shaping the chin strap, use a shaping tool.
3. Moisturize your face.
A clean-shaven face will show dry skin more easily, so be sure to keep your skin moisturized. We recommend a moisturizer with SPF to protect from sun damage.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect soul patch beard:
- Wild Willies Shave Lube: use with a safety razor to get a clean shave.
- The Edge Shaping Tool: to get a defined chin strap, if you choose.
- Wild Willies Smooth With SPF: to moisturize your face and protect from sun damage.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Gandalf Beard Shape
Growing a Gandalf beard takes time, so you gotta be in it for the long haul. Here are the steps to grow yourself if you’re up to the task.
1. Start Growing A Full Beard
The obvious first step to growing a long beard like this is to let those hairs loose. The earlier you start, the sooner you’ll get to your Gandalf beard, so don’t think about shaving your face anytime soon. If you have trouble growing a long and thick beard, consider using daily supplements to help you out.
2. Keep It Trimmed And Groomed
To have a great-looking beard, you must trim and groom it on a schedule. This beard may take a month or more to grow. As it grows, you should get it trimmed a little bit every one or two weeks. Cutting the facial hair will help promote more growth.
3. Brush Consistently
Something else you need to do while you wait for your beard to grow out is to brush it once or twice a day. Use a good, quality beard brush and some beard butter. Rub the beard butter into your beard thoroughly, and then use the brush to straighten out those unruly hairs. You should do this process twice a day if you can, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Over time, your beard hair will become tame, and the butter will keep it from getting hard or brittle.
4. Take Care Of Your Beard
Keep growing that beard to at least four to eight inches to get a true Gandalf beard. You can then shape, groom, or style it the way you want, but the length makes this beard unique. As it grows longer and longer, you will want to continue to maintain the health of your beard. Continue taking supplements and consider using dedicated beard products such as shampoo and conditioner. This will help promote healthy, thick hair while keeping your beard feeling soft.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect Gandalf beard:
- Beard Growth Gummies Supplements: Take these daily supplements to provide your facial hair and skin the necessary vitamins and nutrients.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Ducktail Beard Shape
The ducktail beard shape can be fun to grow and looks great on the right facial type. Here are the steps to grow one out.
1. Grow Out A Full Beard
To begin growing out a ducktail beard, you will need a full beard; at least enough hair on your chin for the right effect. You can keep your jawline and mustache shorter if you’d like, but you will want enough length on your chin and neck hairs to bring them to a point. Use beard serum as you grow out your beard so that you can get it nice and thick.
2. Trim And Style The Facial Hair
Once you have a beard of two to four inches in length, you can trim and style it the way you want. Use a beard trimmer or scissors to even out the lengths of your facial hair, so it’s uniform. You can use beard butter to help shape your beard while keeping it soft. Make sure you let your chin hair grow out for the next step.
3. Bring Your Chin Hair To A Point
Finally, you want to go for the classic ducktail beard style by pulling your beard hairs into a point at your chin. A beard brush and a beard straightener will work wonders here. Use a beard brush daily to tame the hairs to the front of your chin. Use the beard straightener after a hot shower to flatten down those hairs and shape the ducktail beard style.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect ducktail beard:
- Beard Boost Serum: Promotes a healthy, thick beard with all-natural ingredients.
- Beard Butter - Original: It helps style your beard and keeps it hydrated so that it doesn’t turn hard and brittle.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Short Round Beard Shape
As its name indicates, a short round beard should be on the shorter side, meaning you can grow it out in less time than some other styles. Follow these steps to achieve the short round beard style.
1. Grow out your beard and mustache.
You need a mustache to balance out the short round beard, and we think a thick, full beard looks best. For optimal growth, we suggest using a growth serum along with a derma roller, which can increase the absorption of the growth serum by up to 500%. To use the derma roller, simply press it against clean skin and roll it up and down across your face after applying the growth serum.
2. Maintain the short length.
As your mustache begins to grow, you can keep it trimmed right above the lipline with a pair of trimming scissors from a grooming kit. To keep the short length of this beard style, use a trimmer or a pair of grooming scissors every week or so to keep your beard at a length of about 1”.
3. Keep your neckline clean.
On a round face, stubble that extends down your neckline isn’t a good look. Use a shave lube and a razor to keep the area below your chin stubble-free. If you’re using a safety razor, be sure to replace the blade at least once a week to keep it from getting dull.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect short round beard:
- Growth Serum: to jumpstart your beard growth
- Derma Roller: to increase absorption of growth serum
- Grooming Kit: includes trimming scissors and everything else you need to get a great beard
